My Project In School Is To Design An Hybrid Solar Oven That Uses Pv, Battery, Charge Controller And Inverter. Please Advice.

An ordinary electric oven used a lot of power, as much as 10000 watts (10 kW). This means a huge solar array, a huge set of batteries, and a large inverter, all very expensive.

The problem is that oven use is intermittent. You need it for an hour or two, then it sits unused for a day or two. That means the average power is low, perhaps 1/10th the the above number. So you heed a large amount of batteries to sustain it for those two hours. A large auto battery stores about 1 kW for 1 hour, so to provide 10 kW for 2 hours, you would need 20 of these large batteries.

Now for an oven only, no top burners, you may be able to cut down the power level, perhaps as low as 1 kW, which reduces the power requirements, although it makes an oven of limited usefulness.

Another problem:
A solar array must be used all the time there is sun in order to pay back the large cost investment, many thousands of dollars. Using it only to power an oven, which may go for days without being used, is very uneconomical. That is why solar arrays are intended to power the entire house, not just one appliance. In fact, even that can result in unused power, so good systems are designed so that you sell unused power back to the power company, which greatly reduces the need for batteries, as you are then using the power company for energy storage, buying from them for high peak power needs, and selling to them when you have excess power.

No. The big oil companies are behemoths, and unless they really blow it, (as have GM, et al) will continue to do very well. They are "energy" companies. They will simply move to supplying other forms of energy. And there will always be a need for oil for lubricants, etc.

Ultimately, we will of necessity(economy, global warming, etc) be compelled to move to nucelar energy. That is why the price of uranium has gone from under $8 to over to over $91per pound since 2001, without a single pull back, and the ascent continues! Huge profits have been made in the metal itself and in the companies who explore for, develop, and mine it.

Uranium is the only realistic source of energy in the quantities required by world civilization today, and the demands for energy in China, India, et al are just getting started! Also, global warming demands that we stop burning things to produce energy.

Ethanol is a political charade. We are burning food. Ask the poor in Mexico who now pay through the nose for the corn meal to make their tacos. Wind and solar just can't supply the quantities of energy needed at a price we can afford---to say nothing of the aesthetic complaints.

I am happy to learn of the vehicles offered by Phoenix Motors and support all hydogen fuel cell and hydrogen fuel based technology. The technology is already here for these types of vehicles. It's the infrastructure (fuelling stations, etc.) that is absent. And the key will be to produce the hydrogen, and thus, the electricity necessary to produce the hydrogen. Ultimately this electricity must come from nuclear power plants, that is, from URANIUM. Otherwise we are back to square one---burning oil, coal, and natural gas to produce electricity and from the electricity, the hydrogen.

So the hydrogen, hydrogen fuel cell and electric vehicle technology are great and the wave of the future, but the bottom line is we must move to nuclear to produce the bulk of our energy/electricity in order to utilize those technologies. Otherwise we continue to get it from burning things---oil, coal, natural gas, wood, trash, etc. All of which produce CO2, pollution, and global warming.

Unfortunately, the US lags the world in getting on the nuclear band wagon. Get with it! Spread the word! Light the fire under our leaders to get beyond greed, and do what needs to be done!

After you get that and how much the school uses, do the math and include a graph comparison showing the cost of both. You should be able to find the costs of solar panels online somewhere. Do a side by side comparison from start up cost, upkeep and all versus using the current source. Good luck on your report.
