How Does Solar Radiation Affect Climate?

Solar radiation is the heat energy that is emitted from the Sun and radiated out to all parts of the solar system. Some of that energy reaches us here on Earth, it’s what we feel as the warmth of the Sun. The heat is absorbed by the Earth and everything upon it, as the ambient temperature falls (at night for example), the heat that has been absorbed is re-radiated back outward toward space.
Because the heat energy originates from a very hot and energetic source, the wavelength of that radiated energy is very short. However, when it is retransmitted from the Earth it is coming from a much cooler source, has less energy and has a longer wavelength. This type of radiation we call Thermal Radiation.
