Solar panels work almost anywhere. They just need photons, even diffuse photons on cloudy days is enough. Sure sunnier is better but they are practical over a fairly wide range.
The efficiency is up to 20% now at the best, and there are new thin film solar cells and panels that are cheaper to make. The power plants, I mentioned, work much better in a really sunny climate, like our southwest.

They will be much bigger than the pilot plants. More should follow. Two of the companies are already building factories to mass produce the parts for the plants. For comparison; San Francisco could be powered by 1 gigawatt. Hoover Dam 2 gigawatt

If There Is So Much Unused Oil In Alaska?
It Seems The Reason Bush Said We Weren'T Going To Mess With The Oil In Alaska Was To Save It For Future Generations... Yet We Are Researching New Means Of Energy (Solar, Hydrogen, Etc.) Since It Is Clear That We Will Likely Be Driving Hydrogen Or Electric Powered Cars In The Future, Why Not Harvest The Oil In Alaska?

Some people see all energy options in some kind of good-versus-evil opera, and to them, oil energy is Evil. That's all. From any reasonable perspective, we should use it. What we're doing to the environment by NOT using it is having other countries drill the wells and pump the oil, those being countries that would gladly pave a rainforest without remorse if they thought it would save them a buck just today, i.e. countries that will make quite a sloppy mess getting the oil from the ground to us. Not to mention that these are mostly countries (e.g. Saudi Arabia) that we don't really need to be funding.

Since They Tend To Follow The Major Interstates, It Wouldn'T Be Too Costly To Build (Or Convert Existing) Gas Stations To Natural Gas Dispensing. There Are 5 Million Trucks On The Road, And If Just Half Were Converted It Would Save $125 Billion Per Year In Gasoline. One Issue Is &Quot;Fracking&Quot; And The Means Of Getting Natural Gas Out Of The Ground Safely. If You Ever Travel To Wyoming, You Will See That The Gas Is Practically Coming Out By Itself.
