I'm sorry to sound condescending, but I'm not sure you understand electricity. Electricity is a form of energy. What I think you're trying to ask is whether there will be a new way to generate electricity. The answer is probably yes.

We already have and use many ways to generate energy. Some newer examples are nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, and solar energy. They all generate electricity, and the only difference in the electricity they produce is the amount that can be made.

To answer your question, I predict that we are headed towards a cheaper, environmentally friendlier set of ways to get our electricity. Already, solar panels in houses and small ways to generate and even save one's own electricity are in use in some houses. Some homes actually get paychecks from energy companies that they are connected to via grid, because they are making more electricity than they need, and the runoff goes into the energy grid. In the future, technologies will probably make this more common and easy. It may not be totally free, but it will be overall better.

Battery could be 500 amp-hours, but that is a very large battery. A large auto battery is about 70–100 amp-hours. Or the 500 amps could be a max current rating, and have nothing to do with capacity.

How big is it physically? If it is ordinary car battery size, I'd say it is 70 amp hours.

If it really is 500 amp-hours, and the panel delivers 60W / 15v = 4 amps (it takes 15 volts to charge a 12 volt lead-acid battery), then:

500 amp-hours / 4 amps = 125 hours to charge it. (70 amp-hrs, this would be 18 hours) But at that slow a rate, barely a trickle charge, it could take significantly longer than the 125 hours. Be sure you have a good 5 amp diode between the array and the battery so that the battery doesn't discharge through the solar array when the sun goes down.

Note that, as mentioned above, the array has to deliver 15 volts plus the diode drop, say 16 volts, before the battery charges at all. You may get this only with a very bright sun.

It's a catch 22. Solar is much more expensive to install and looks crappy on your roof. Make sure your orientation to the sun is correct. Heat pump will cause less aggrivation to install but might require more service in the long run. On a monthly basis solar would be less.
