It depends how much you are using the system to power, but you may not need that much.
175W is a large panel. Do make sure to use a solar charge controller between the panel and the batteries. It will automatically maintain the charge without the batteries going over-voltage.
There are losses introduced when using an inverter to convert 12v DC to 120v AC. If possible, try to find loads that also use 12v DC so that you can power them from the battery bank (don't forget fuses or another type of over-current protection) without an inverter. You may need the inverter to power certain loads but whenever you can get by without it, you are better off, efficiency-wise.
The risk of fire or heat damage in a circuit comes from too much current for the components. Make sure to use large-gauge wiring to make connections and use the shortest-length wire necessary to minimize losses and voltage-drop. Make sure to use current protection such as fuses. A 1500w inverter uses a lot of current at full load--probably 150 amps or more, not counting start-up current from devices, which is quite a bit higher. Drawing batteries down too fast can damage them. You can use that large an inverter but try only to use a fraction of its capacity. If you are only using small 120v AC loads, use a smaller inverter. Large inverters have high current loss and cause needless battery drain.
