I should probably say now that renewable energy is energy that will always be around (solar, wind ect) or that can replenish itself before it is all used, like timber.
Non renewable energy is energy that will eventually run out. This is mainly fossil fuels. Coal and oil take millions of years to be created from fossilized products like plant and animal material. This is then buried underground from erosion or other natural ways. It is pressurized and turns to coal, or turns to oil. Because of the millions of years underground, there is high carbon levels in the energy sources, so when they are burnt cause lots of carbon to be released and heat to be emitted, causing the power plants to run. As your question doesn't ask about that I wont explain it because you probably don't want to know, and I want to stay on topic.
