About Solar Energy
Solar power is energy from the sun that is transformed into thermal or electrical energy.
Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable resource source available, and the United States has some of the richest solar resources worldwide. Modern innovation can harness this energy for a variety of usages, consisting of producing electricity, supplying light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, commercial, or industrial usage.
Solar power makes it possible for homeowner to use the sun to power everyday life: running your a/c unit, washing clothes, watching TELEVISION, cooking dinner. All while decreasing your carbon footprint, and without burning nonrenewable fuel sources or putting a pressure on the electrical grid. And while the environmental advantages of solar power are considerable, numerous home owners discover that the benefit, distinct functions, and expense savings of owning a solar power system are a lot more attractive.
Top Ten Advantages of Solar Energy
#1 Significantly minimize or perhaps eliminate your electric expenses
Whether you're a homeowner, company, or nonprofit, electricity expenses can make up a big portion of your month-to-month expenditures. With a solar panel system, you'll generate totally free power for your system's entire 25+ year lifecycle. Even if you do not produce One Hundred Percent of the energy you take in, solar will reduce your utility costs and you'll still conserve a lot of money.
#2 Earn an excellent return on your investment
Photovoltaic panels aren't an expense-- they're one of the finest methods to invest, with returns equaling those of more traditional investments like stocks and bonds. Thanks to substantial electricity bill savings, the average American house owner pays off their solar panel system in 7 to 8 years and sees an ROI of 20 percent or more.
#3 Secure versus increasing energy expenses
Among the most clear cut advantages of photovoltaic panels is the ability to hedge utility costs. In the previous 10 years, domestic electricity costs have gone up by an average of three percent each year. By purchasing a solar energy system now, you can fix your electrical power rate and secure against unforeseeable boosts in electrical power costs. If you're an organisation or property owner with changing capital, going solar also assists you better forecast and manage your expenditures.
#4 Increase your home or business value
Several research studies have discovered that homes equipped with solar energy systems have greater residential or commercial property worths and offer quicker than non-solar homes. Appraisers are progressively taking solar installations into factor to consider as they value homes at the time of a sale, and as property buyers end up being more educated about solar, demand for properties geared up with photovoltaic panel systems will continue to grow.
#5 Boost U.S. energy self-reliance
The sun is a near-infinite source of energy and a key part of attaining energy self-reliance in the United States. By increasing our capacity to generate electrical energy from the sun, we can also insulate our nation from rate changes in global energy markets.
#6 Develop jobs and help your regional economy
Inning accordance with The Solar Foundation, the solar market added tasks at a rate almost 12 times faster than the total U.S. economy in 2015, representing 1.2 percent of all tasks in the nation. This development is anticipated to continue. Due to the fact that solar-related jobs tend to be greater paying and can not be contracted out, they are a significant factor to the United States economy.
#7 Safeguard the environment
Solar is a fantastic method to decrease your carbon footprint. Buildings are accountable for 38 percent of all carbon emissions in the U.S., and going solar can significantly reduce that number. A common property photovoltaic panel system will get rid of 3 to 4 lots of carbon emissions each year-- the equivalent of planting over 100 trees each year.
#8 Show your dedication to sustainability
Sustainability and business social responsibility are essential parts of an organization's culture and values. They likewise produce bottom line results. Progressively, consumers and communities are recognizing and rewarding businesses that pick to operate properly. Businesses are discovering that "green" qualifications are a powerful driver of customer acquiring choices, developing goodwill and improving service results.
#9 Start Conserving from Day 1
Solar purchase power contracts (PPAs) and solar leasing has actually made it possible for house owners to go solar for little or no loan down.
Lots of homeowners decide to finance their photovoltaic panels with among the "pay-as-you-go" financing options. This suggests that a third-party company-- the solar supplier-- owns the solar system and looks after setup, maintenance, monitoring and repair works. You simply pay the solar supplier for electricity-- less than you would've paid the utility company.
Since June 2013, 75% of all American houses have access to pay-as-you-go solar.
#10. Solar is a Secure Financial investment
The utility companies are well-known for their fluctuating and undependable electricity prices. There is clearly an upward trend.
With solar panels and basic mathematics, we can compute how much electrical energy will be produced, and most notably, at what rate, for a minimum of the next 20 years (repaired energy costs).
What are the various payment options?
We have many flexible purchasing agreements for customers who would like to install a new home solar system. There are three different payment options, making them a viable choice for customers of all budgets. The payment options include Lease, PPA, and Purchase.
- Low, fixed payments each month
- System insurance for 20 years, including maintenance
- Flexible end-of-term options, including system upgrade, lease extension, and free panel removal
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)
- We own the solar panel system
- $0 down for installation
- Customers only pay for the solar energy that they use
- Customer pays for the system upfront and owns the system
- System monitoring and maintenance for 20 years
- Receive 30% federal tax credit
- See a return on investment within 7-10 years
What happens when the contract for my lease is finished?
We provide our customers with a few different options for when their lease contract is up. Customers can upgrade their equipment to the newest solar technology available, extend the agreement, or have the panels removed at no cost.
What is the warranty?
The Lease and PPA include a 20-year warranty during the lifetime of the system. This warranty exceeds that of most other solar installers’ warranties.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Can I Build A Solar Panel?
I Really Need To Know How
Because Im Building A Solar Powered Car For Science Fair :]
Hehe, if you want to build your own solar panel that looks like what you see on buildings, etc, you will probably need to be a multi-millionaire. Here is a quote from the first link in my sources list:
"The high-efficiency solar cells you can buy at Radio Shack and other stores are made from highly processed silicon, and require huge factories, high temperatures, vacuum equipment, and lots of money."
But fortunately for you, there is a cheap way to make a solar panel yourself (see first link). I love the scitoys website, but I am not quite familiar with this particular experiment. It looks like a science fair project in itself! It also doesn't appear to put out nearly enough power to run even a small solar car.
What I would recommend is buying a compact solar panel from Radio Shack or some other electronics store that you may know of.
Type in "solar" in to the Radio Shack search box. The first item on the list may be useful to you (the solar panel & battery combo). I am just guessing, though, since I don't know any of your requirements (voltage output, power output, size, etc). Also, buyer beware. This particular product has a pretty bad customer review... but then again, I find that people are more inclined to leave a bad review than a good one.
How Are Solar Panels Tested And Rated?
They can be tested and certified by any NRTL (nationally recognized testing laboratory) like UL, CSA, ETL, TUV etc and all solar panels are rated in Watts. The watt rating is how much power (amps times volts) the panel will produce in full sunlight at 25 degrees C (77F). This is the industry standard (STC) for all PV panel ratings
Question About Solar Panels?
I Was Wondering Why Solar Panel Manufacturers Don'T Make Spherical Or Dome Shaped Solar &Quot;Panels&Quot; Rather Then Flat Panels? You Could Put These On Poles, Or Something Of The Sort, And They Could Collect Rays From All Angles.
Is There Some Technical Issues That Are Keeping Them From Designing Such A Solar &Quot;Panel?&Quot;
Modern solar panels are much more effficient than a previous poster believes - they are up to over 50% efficiency for good ones.
Solar panel production is inherently a planar process since it is essentially the smae technolgy as used to make silcon chips on a larger scale. As previously noted, there are also efficiency benefits of having flat sheets correctly orientated at the light source, and although obviously that does not apply in the case of static installations you can get good results in practice with panels on the flat or near flat so that they re never in shadow. With complex shapes one part of the panel is inevitably going to be casting a shadow on another part.
How Do Solar Panels Work?
Can Someone Give Me A Quick Explanation On How Solar Panels Work?
Just An Explanation So I Can Understand But Not Get Confused With The Details.
The sun emits light in the form of photons.
When photons hit the solar cells they may be converted to electrons.
When a load (eg a lamp or motor) is connected, these electons move along the wire.
The movement of electrons is called electricity.
Hillary Is Going To Give Us Clean Coal & Solar Energy Just Like Carter Gave Us The Synfuel Failure. Right?
Actually, it was Reagan who eliminated funding for research into alternative energy. Many of the advances in solar and wind technology happened from this small burst of funding during the Carter administration, but then development stalled as taxpayer money was shifted into providing subsidies for oil and coal.
Reagan even went so far as to remove solar panels that had already been installed on the roof of the White House.
