You also have to have a relatively new roof with at least 30 years left of wear. I had to get a new roof at an additional cost over and above the cost for solar. But it's all worth it. My electric bills for the last 6 months have been minimal. Solar did cost over $36,000 and then you apply credits and rebates. It was $11,000 final cost after applying rebates and tax credits, plus the cost of the roof. The payback for me is about 5 years. It is one of the best investments I ever made.
