About Solar Energy
Solar power is energy from the sun that is transformed into thermal or electrical energy.
Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable resource source available, and the United States has some of the richest solar resources worldwide. Modern innovation can harness this energy for a variety of usages, consisting of producing electricity, supplying light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, commercial, or industrial usage.
Solar power makes it possible for resident to use the sun to power everyday life: running your air conditioner, cleaning clothing, viewing TELEVISION, cooking supper. All while decreasing your carbon footprint, and without burning fossil fuels or putting a pressure on the electrical grid. And while the ecological benefits of solar power are significant, lots of home owners discover that the convenience, unique functions, and cost savings of owning a solar power system are a lot more alluring.
Top Ten Benefits of Solar Energy
#1 Drastically minimize or perhaps eliminate your electrical costs
Whether you're a house owner, organization, or nonprofit, electrical energy costs can comprise a big part of your monthly expenses. With a solar panel system, you'll create totally free power for your system's whole 25+ year lifecycle. Even if you do not produce One Hundred Percent of the energy you consume, solar will reduce your utility expenses and you'll still conserve a great deal of loan.
#2 Earn a terrific return on your financial investment
Solar panels aren't an expense-- they are among the finest methods to invest, with returns rivaling those of more standard investments like stocks and bonds. Thanks to substantial electrical energy expense cost savings, the typical American homeowner pays off their photovoltaic panel system in seven to eight years and sees an ROI of 20 percent or more.
#3 Secure versus rising energy costs
One of the most clear cut advantages of photovoltaic panels is the capability to hedge utility prices. In the previous 10 years, property electrical energy prices have actually gone up by an average of 3 percent yearly. By purchasing a solar energy system now, you can repair your electrical power rate and secure versus unpredictable boosts in electricity expenses. If you're a service or house owner with rising and falling capital, going solar also assists you better forecast and manage your costs.
#4 Boost your residential or commercial property value
Numerous studies have found that homes equipped with solar energy systems have higher property worths and offer more rapidly than non-solar homes. Appraisers are progressively taking solar setups into consideration as they value houses at the time of a sale, and as homebuyers end up being more informed about solar, need for residential or commercial properties equipped with solar panel systems will continue to grow.
#5 Increase U.S. energy independence
The sun is a near-infinite source of energy and an essential component of attaining energy self-reliance in the United States. By increasing our capacity to produce electrical power from the sun, we can also insulate our country from rate fluctuations in international energy markets.
#6 Develop jobs and help your regional economy
Inning accordance with The Solar Foundation, the solar market included jobs at a rate almost 12 times faster than the general U.S. economy in 2015, representing 1.2 percent of all jobs in the country. This development is anticipated to continue. Because solar-related jobs have the tendency to be higher paying and can not be outsourced, they are a considerable contributor to the U.S. economy.
#7 Safeguard the environment
Solar is a fantastic way to reduce your carbon footprint. Buildings are accountable for 38 percent of all carbon emissions in the U.S., and going solar can considerably decrease that number. A typical property photovoltaic panel system will eliminate 3 to four tons of carbon emissions each year-- the equivalent of planting over 100 trees every year.
#8 Demonstrate your dedication to sustainability
Sustainability and business social obligation are necessary components of a company's culture and worths. They likewise produce bottom line outcomes. Increasingly, customers and communities are acknowledging and rewarding organisations that opt to run responsibly. Services are discovering that "green" qualifications are an effective driver of customer buying decisions, producing goodwill and improving organisation results.
#9 Start Saving from Day 1
Solar purchase power agreements (PPAs) and solar leasing has actually made it possible for house owners to go solar for little or no cash down.
Lots of homeowners opt to fund their solar panels with one of the "pay-as-you-go" funding options. This implies that a third-party company-- the solar supplier-- owns the solar system and takes care of installation, upkeep, monitoring and repair works. You just pay the solar service provider for electrical energy-- less than you would've paid the energy company.
Since June 2013, 75% of all American houses have access to pay-as-you-go solar.
#10. Solar is a Secure Financial investment
The utility companies are notorious for their changing and unreliable electricity costs. There is clearly an upward pattern.
With photovoltaic panels and simple mathematics, we can calculate what does it cost? electrical power will be generated, and most significantly, at exactly what cost, for at least the next Twenty Years (repaired energy expenses).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Modify My Car To Use Solar Energy? Is There A Kit?
I Have A Car That Runs On Regular Unleaded Gas And Would Like To Convert It To Use Solar E. Is There A Kit Available To Make This Possible?
You could do an electric conversion for your car. It's expensive. (link 1) You could also put a lot of solar panels on your home (if you own one) That's very expensive. (link 2)
Then use the solar panels to charge your car.
True solar car look like toys. (link 3).
How Much Power Does A Normal House Consume?
I Am Looking Into Providing Solar Power For A House I Am Moving Into But I Need To Know How Much Energy I Would Need To Cover To Go Completely Solar And Nothing On The Grid.
350 watts is my target. Only get CF lighting. Low watt TV. PC with lcd monitor. Hot water for dishes and shower is solar. look into batch heating, super cheap and effective. clothes dry is solar. Heat house is solar and/or fireplace. Easier done in South. Stereo would be clock radio with big speaker wired into it. 6 watts for that. I'm doing it now with a Big Pioneer cabinet wired to the clock radio. Sounds GREAT for 6 watts. Electric company hates me:)
Is It Possible To Gain Solar Energy From A Lightbulb? ?
If you mean harvest energy from the light bulb using solar cells, yes that is possible and will be used to a much greater extent than was done in the past. As I remember, 30 years ago there was a solar device that attached to any nearby light bulb and powered a small d.c. motor, revolving a sign in a grocery store. Today, due to advances in low power micro controllers, there are hundreds of possibilities for light powered sensors throughout a house, which communicate with each other wirelessly for air conditioning control etc. The source below lists the many energy harvesting modules on the market, some are solar, some are thermal, mechanical etc.
Pls Help Me, Physics, Electricity?
Hi Pls Help Me With This:
One Of The Suggested Development Targets In South Africa Is That All Communities In The Country Should Gain Access To Electricity.
1. Suggest Two Ways In Which Provision Of Electricity Would Help The Social And/Or Economic Development Of A Community.
2. In South Africa, Most Electricity Is Generated In Coal-Fired Power Stations. Give Two Reasons Why Coal Is Not The Perferred Source To Generate Electricity.
3. State One Source Of Electricity In South Africa. Briefly Explain How It Can Be Used.
4. Calculate The Efficiency Of These Bulbs.
5. In An Attempt To Save Electricity Some Municipalities Decided To Replace All Household Tungsten Filament Bulbs (Incandescent Bulbs) With Compact Flourescent Bulbs (Energy-Saving Bulbs). These Bulbs Are 20% Efficient. If The Energy-Saving Bulbs Are Used Instead Of The Old Bulbs Are Used Indtead Of The Old Bulbs, Determine The Percentage Of Electricity Saved.
Thnx So Much 4 All The Help!! =)
A. Increase productivy by more readily enabling longer working days, either in external economic or internal household chores, and in enabling electrically powered equipment and tools.
B. Increase the flow of information through the operation of communitcation equipment.
A. Coal-fired power stations generate a lot of by products such as sooted smoke and slag that are not healthy for either the local nor global environment.
B. By the time the coal is mined, transported, prepared for use, and then used in the generation of electrical power it is not very efficient. It takes quite a bit of energy to make electricity out of most coal plant processes.
3) ? What can I say, I don't know too much about South Africa. Is this question actually asking about current sources or potential sources. I believe that there are some individual building/facility uses of solar energy. And, I seem to remember that they are/were starting to seek partners in generating wind energy.
4) "these bulbs" must mean CFL - To begin with we are on our fourth generation CFLs, the last time I read, and preparing for a fifth. Each generation uses less energy, lasts longer, and is more reliable. Yet, there are plenty of the older generation bulbs still in the market place/sold in stores, particularly those that are cheaper and/or on sale. At the same time, I'm not quite sure if a comparrison between CFLs and incandescents is being sought here or, if there was some type of forumla given to you in your text book or lecture.
Lets say that you are running a 20watt CLF as a replacement for a 60watt incandesacent bulb. If you ran both bulbs 5 hours a day, the CLF bulb would use: (5hr * 20w = 100 watts for one day and 100w * 7d = 700 watts for the week.). The incandescent bulb would use: (5hr * 60w= 300watts for one day and 300w * 7d = 3500 watts for the week.) We charge for electricity by the kilowat and a kilowat is 1000 watts. We can use the following formula to determine the difference kilowats: 1kw/1000w * the number of watts = the number of kilowats used. In the case of the CFL usage over a week, we would use: 1kw/1000w * 700w/1 = 700kw/1000 = 7kw/10. The math is a little nicer for the incandescent: 1kw/1000w * 3500w/1= 3500kw/1000=3.5kw. If you want to do more math, figure these differences out for a month of 4 weeks or a year of 52 weeks. I understand from reading a different ANSWERS post that the average cost per kilowatt is .11, or 11 cents.
5) The 20w CFL versus 60w incandescent comparrision is right off of a package I have in the closet. - What can I say, I bought them a while back and by the time I used some coupons with the sale price etc..., I paid nothing for the package of two rather than 9.99. - In the example above the 20w CFL uses 1/3 of the energy that the 60 watt incandescent does: 20w CFL versus 60w incandescent==>a 20:60 ratio or a 20/60 fraction. In any one of the representations, 20 divided by 20 is one and 60 divided by 20 is 3. This says that the 20w CFL uses 1/3 the energy that the 60w incandescent does.
Your problem says that a CFL is 20% efficient. Which means, "that by definition the CFL is 20% efficient." At the same time this problem doesn't tell us "efficient compared to what". Also, this problem does not say is how efficient the the old bulbs are. Lastly, this problem as stated, doesn't give us any ratio, fraction, or comparative percentage between the CFL and the old bulbs. I'm at a loss of how to proceed.
How Would You Ended California Budget Crisis ?
I Would Personally Locked Everyone Inculding The Governor,In A Room I Would Not Let Them Out Not Even For A Coffee Break,I Am Getting Tired Of The Impasse.
Closing the US/Mexican border in california would deter illegal immigration hence lower law enforcement costs and local government funding requirements. Expelling illegals would produce jobs that californians that are on welfare or need a job can have, and also would further lower law enforcement, local, and government financial obligations. California is not against migrant workers, and will accept them with open arms as long as they have qualifying paperwork to work...illegal work is unacceptable and will be combatted effectively. Since they are taking jobs that the people of california cannot or will not fulfill, their hourly pay will be subsidized by the state in addition to the fair pay that the employer will pay which is to include a monthly stipend for living expenses...state taxes will still be issued for them. Their families may not visit or live with them during this period as it will put additional strain on the budget of the state. Since this is obviously a very lucritive offer for migrant workers, it will be state policy only to accept those fluent in the language of the state...english. First offense on any police intervention of any kind on their part will constitute deportation. California is a beautiful and peaceful place to live, so hence it needs good funding from the people to remain such. Some pay tax while others that are rich and can afford fancy lawyers and accountants to come up with some bs and pay next to no tax. In addition to californias sales tax, a tax of 10% of yearly income will be taken by the state each year from each individual...no write offs are possible. Homeowners will pay a property tax of two tenths of one percent each year to help local government, but automobile tag fees will be decreased and increased tax on gas will be eliminated. Only professional, manufacturing, trade, buisness, and other approved jobs will qualify for unemployment due to the volitility of low end jobs and their unimportance to the state and economy. California couldnt stress enough that people have a skill and be able to provide for themselves, so anybody between 27-65 that cannot prove that either A they are a student, B an apprentice, C currently practicing their trade/profession and can support themselves, D have qualifying funds to be retired, or E they have a qualifying disability that gets state aid will be asked to leave California as they cant possibly afford to live there. This will in turn increase the income potential of all families in california as jobs are available to people 16-27 years of age...it is anticipated that in that time frame they will have learned a skill and can support themselves and not rely on the state. All people 21-23 will get state aid to help them with the tough decisions that they must make during those years that often require funding that they dont have. The subsidy is intended for education, 15% rent and utilities, or medical costs and will be closely monitored. Through taxation subsidizing of education can be achieved. Only approved anticipated professions will be accepted (nurses, engineers and scientists, economists, accountants, etc...no political scientists, generalized buisness majors, historians, etc) for a subsidy...people that have not lived in california for a minimum of 10 years do not qualify. Other professions will be available, but are to be paid for by the individual and never by the state. No person shall qualify for welfare in the state of california, so no such program exists. Mentally handicapped people that qualify will get state aid which is different from welfare as people on welfare are able to work but choose not to. More coal fired power plants, solar plants, and nuclear plants will be allowed to be built in california to eliminate outside electricity dependence. This in turn will bring good paying high skilled jobs to california versus continuing to subsidize other states workers and state capital. As well as steam power plants, off shore energy exploration will be approved which will further bring good jobs to california. A political "watchdog" group will be subsidized by the state which will closely monitor political leaders in the state and report to the people of any corruption in which referendum will be imposed and the people can choose to expel the individual from the state if voting is majority. In conclusion to change takes a change of mentality and to tackle any problems cannot be done overnight or even in the next decade. Its just like your credit card...you were younger and used it all the time not caring of the consequences, but 15 years later your still paying on it! Continuous discontinuities in the budget, unsound leadership, and corruption will keep california on its current track no matter how much taxes they take, how many "cuts" they do, or anything. Keeping in mind this, the only way to solve the problem is start now and the next generation will reap the benefits.
