Hi Audi, yes, and if fact I have. Kano has a point, if you already have regular grid power, adding solar or wind now will most likely not save you any money. We do have grid power, and added the solar and wind power anyway. Here's the reason:

Our nearest powerplant is coal powered, so for enviromental reasons, we enjoy our sun and wind powered home. Some people grow tomatoes in their garden even though it's cheaper and easier to buy them at the store. Maybe they like the taste better, or prefer vegetables without chemical pesticides or other non natural features. We just grow electrons in our garden. There is also the fact that our home has not been without power for even a minute the last 15 years, hard to put a price on that. So yes, our power probably costs more than our neighbors, I'm fine with it.
Hydroelectric and biomass are fine technologies, but not suited for home use. Most good hydroelectric sites have already been built on. Unless you have a nice waterfall, or high volume fast moving stream nearby, or you are operating a large livestock farm, neither will be much use to you. We also collect rainwater from our homes downspouts, and preheat our domestic hot water with solar collectors, and our primary source of heat is wood, which is harvested from the 6 acre forest on our property.
