Biofuels are made from renewable biomass as opposed to fossil fuels like coal, oil, natural gas. In theory!
This is really a mess - a fuel may be carbon neutral to burn but not to produce (it could be though). This should be taken into consideration and most often it is'nt, tell your teacher that! There's very strong economical interests involved and these interests want to have control of what is what.
Take for example Gasohol, it's a mixture of ethanol and gasoline - ethanol is carbon netural to burn but not to produce and gasoline is made from petroleum, which is a fossil non renewable resource, yet it's called a "biofuel".....
Anyway, one good rule of thumb is that fossil fuels are carbon producing because they are not part of the "carbon cycle", they add carbon to our athmosphere as CO^2. We bring fossil fuels up from deep in the ground, through oil wells, coal mines and gas plants, and then we burn it at the earths surface. Fossil fuels have been out of the carbon cycle for millions of years and we humans bring it back in.
You misunderstand "electric" as what your teacher means is 'electric power'. That is not a fuel! You cannot burn electricity. Though there's many ways of producing electricity and one way is to burn fossil fuels in a coal plant, this way of making electricity is carbon producing. You can also make electricity in a nuclear plant which is a carbon neutral way of producing electricity, however you end up with radioactive waste. And, again, the methods of obtaining the resources (mainly uranium) may not be carbon neutral.
The best and cheapest way (that we do not use because the capitalist economy want to milk out the last bits of profits that can be made from petroleum first) is to use the sun as a source of energy, by building solar plants. To heat water, make electricity, make houses warm, power cars etc. The sun is a nuclear plant 1.6 million times larger than earth and we barely use it! It's a damn scandal. It produces no carbon or radioactive waste, it does not smell or make any noise, it does not pollute in any way and it will probably spew out energy long after the planet earth is gone.
Some people, lobbying for status quo in energy politics, claim that we have no useful batteries yet to store the energy and that it's too costly. It's not true, the modern Lithium/Ion batteries are amazing and there's also a new development on making them even more effective and the old acid lead batteries are completely renewable and works well! The cost of making solar plants is high in the short run, indeed, but they are long lasting and they produce energy at basically no cost! So they are the cheapest and best alternative in the long run. Besides, the way we look at costs and energy is usually flawed, it's not economically wise to use cheap dirty non renewable resources instead of clean expensive long lasting renewable resources. This is what you should learn in school!

As for rubbish - much of what we throw away is plastics and many of us use plastic bags to put rubbish in before we throw it. Most of the plastics and many plastic bags are made from petroleum. So, when we burn that rubbish, with plastics/petroleum in it, we add CO^2 from fossil fuels to the athmosphere. Tell your teacher that!

if you are talking about dams, than water passes through turbines which is basically a big underwater fan. as the water passes across the blades it makes it spin. the turbine is connected to a generator which makes electricity.
Solar plants. if your referring to oraganisms i cant help but a plant that doesnt use solar panels probably uses mirrors that are pointed at central point, usually a tower. All this light shines on the tower heating water until it boils. The hot, pressurized steam rushes over a turbine just as at the dam, and that runs a generator to make electricity.

Currently, the way solar installations work is by providing power for the house during the day, but then selling excess power back to the power company. You then use the credits for selling your power during the day, to then buy power from the power company at night. However it gets more complicated since most people get more sun during the summer, and less sun during the winter. This is why the calculations are done to cover the entire year such that the total money earned by generating electricity equals (or comes VERY close to) the total amount of power you need to buy from the power company over the course of the year. (e.g. at night, or during cloudy winter days.)
If, instead, you want to redirect the electricity from your solar installation into the powerwall and then use the powerwall to power your house then the calculations are different since you want your solar installation to generate enough power to keep your house running through the night until the next day.
If each powerwall only stores 10KW then you'll probably need multiple powerwalls. For instance, my house averages about 1KW/h, when the whole year is considered. That means if I were to solely power my house from the powerwalls, I'd need at least 3 of them, and my solar installation would have to generate a total of at least 24KW every day during the day. That'd be an upfront cost of $9000, which assuming brought your bill down to $0 saving you $100/mo, this would take nearly 8 years to pay for itself.
IMHO, not worth it yet. Battery storage capacity and price will be dropping.
